More on inexplicable european musical favorites

Unless it's run by foreigners, a club in Paris will either play "the hottest internationally renowned [electronic genre] DJ" OR 80's classics. But there lacks a certain cultural relevance here to the American 80's hits, and rather than "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" on repeat (still okay) they immerse you in the 80's goth punk/new wave you know and love. Any given night at Le Pop In, it is a sure thing you will hear "Love will tear us apart," "This Charming Man," and "Come on Eileen" (not goth punk, but in sequence with the Strokes--not 80's but also loved by France--and the theme from Grease, it will be the most fun you've ever had with Dexy's Midnight Runners since you went running at midnight with them in phosphorescent safety Day-Glo).

A highlight from this French love of goth punk and new wave was hearing "Jumping someone else's train" transition into the nightly Joy Division rendition at Disquares. Enjoy.
