I had to read this book by Sapphire for my youth literature class, "The Perilous Journey: The Darker Side of Childhood." It is written in the style of an illiterate girl, depicted in the trailer above, who slowly becomes more literate. So reading it I felt like I was made dumb and then re-educated. It was not necessarily a process I enjoyed, but thankfully I finished it and was not left 100% harmed.
That being said, the rape, abuse and embarrassment Precious endures will probably be equally painful to watch as it was to read. But it is always healing to see Mariah Carey's face plastered with a fake (possibly real) mustache.
Harvey Weinstein, get off your hundred-dollar-bill-stuffed ass and release this movie already or we will start to illegally download it and THEN what will happen to all the underprivileged pregnant teenage girls who need federal aid?
